School life & the University life- the two different dimensions

October 27, 2010

Student life has some stages. These stages can be classified in many different ways. One of the classification is that the first stage of student life is school life, second is college life and the third one is university life.

From the three stages a student always enjoy more and learn more in the school life and in the university life, because a student has to spend much of his education life in this two stages. In this two stages student can find friends with whom friendship can last longer, because there are enough time to know each other very much. People who have already passed their educational life, remember most their school life and university life.

School life and university life are not similar in many aspects. School is for the basic level of education and university life is the upper stage where students get the highest level of education. University is the place where students are taught to think broadly and be practical.

Environment of a school and a university are also not the same. The providing facilities are also not the same. Like, library facilities, playground, common room, clubs and other co curricular activities are not same. Though the school has clubs, but these clubs are not as active and practical as a university’s clubs.

Qualifications of the teachers are also different from school to university. University teachers are highly qualified and they have higher education degrees from home and abroad. But school teachers are not as qualified as university teachers. But school teacher’s qualifications can be classified with their experience.

Though the two stages of student life has many differences, without one of it education life will not be fulfilled. Two of them have the equal importance in every student’s life. Compare and contrast of these two stages are only external but internally both have different dimension in the life of a student.

Power of songs

October 25, 2010

Song is like flower. A man who like flower, he can love song. A song can give one a hope, a love, a new way to think about life. Songs are experiences of life that has already been experienced. Songs always speak about humanity, joy, love and excitement. Songs can remove loneliness of anyone. As flowers spread their scent all around to every one, songs also spread their words to all. Song is not for a certain age, group, race or place.

When I was lonely I hear music. When my heart is full of sadness, I hear music. When I am in a journey, I hear music. When it is a night and my eyes are out of sleep, I hear music. Music removes my loneliness. It removes my sadness. It also makes my journey more joyous.

“Dictionary” an important elemant

October 24, 2010

We all know well of how to use the dictionary. Dictionary is referred to as the vocabulary/ word book. Dictionary has a long history.

The earliest modern European dictionaries were bilingual dictionaries. The earliest in the English language were glossaries of French, Italian or Latin words along with definitions of the foreign words in English. An early non-alphabetical list of 8000 English words was created by Richard Mulcaster in 1592. The first purely English alphabetical dictionary was A Table Alphabeticall, written by English schoolteacher Robert Cawdrey in 1604.

Today there are many types of English dictionaries like dictionary of vocabulary, dictionary of other language, dictionary of different subjects- business dictionary, accounting dictionaries, dictionary for English literature etc.

FIVE HUNDRED MILES

October 22, 2010

Five hundred miles also known as 500 miles away from home or railroaders’ lament is a folk song and was popular in the United States and in the Europe in 1960s. The lyrics reflect a man who is far from home, out of money and too ashamed to return. The song has been sung by many singers and bands. Some think that “500 miles is related to the older folk song “900 miles” and that may origin in North America the song was first released in the album “The Journeymen” in 1961.

Ihe lyrics:

If you miss the train I'm on
You will know that I have gone
You will hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles,
  a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

Lord, I'm one, Lord, I'm two, Lord, I'm three
Lord, I'm four, Lord, I'm five hundred miles from my home
Five hundred miles, five hundred miles, five hundred miles
  five hundred miles
Lord, I'm five hundred miles from my home

Not a shirt on my back, not a penny to my name
Lord, I can't go back home this a way
This away, this away, this away, this away
Lord I can't go back home this away

If you miss the train I'm on
You will know that I have gone
You will hear the whistle blow a hundred miles
A hundred miles, a hundred miles, a hundred miles,
  a hundred miles
You can hear the whistle blow a hundred miles

The Boston group approach

October 20, 2010

There are only two marketing approach of choosing SBU (strategic business unit), one in BGA( Boston group approach) & the other is GEA( general electronics approach). Here I am discussing the BGA method-

BGA is the approach where the leader of the market is taken as the opposition. The approach needs to find the SBU’s growth comparing with the SBU of the leader of the market. For example, in Bangladesh Unilever’s product ‘Lux’ can be compared with ‘Meril’ one of Square product. But in this case both the compared products must be in the same category. For example, Lux & Meril are in the category of beauty soap.

Above there is a boston diagram which indicates four level. At stars level the products present and future condition is good. At the level of question mark the products present condition is not good but it will bring profit in future. Cash cows level is very much complicated. In this level product may bring huge profit at present but the product will vanish from the market in future. At dogs level the product can not bring profit for the firm for any time. So the investment in this level should be withdrawn.

importance of library in acquaring knowledge

October 19, 2010

Only the earning knowledge from the text book is not sufficient to survive in life. To mitigate the thrust of knowledge, we have to earn knowledge from different sources. From all the other sources, book is the only source that is the easiest way to earn knowledge. And the library, the store of many books and a suitable place for acquiring knowledge, is the most likely place to read books. And if the library is full of modern facilities, then no other words would not be used. Library is a place where the likely study environment can inspire to read and to know more. Though today’s world has a huge knowledge inventory in the internet, this facility must not give the environment of study. I think internet is helpful for library but it can not be replaced with library. Internet is a subsidiary portion of knowledge earning process.

my experience with writing

October 4, 2010

Now I am a young man of 20 years. Today I am an undergraduate student. I have passed more than 10 years in studying at educational institutions. When I was in five, I started going to school. When I learned about how to write bangle words, my eagerness of writing continued. That time I tried to write letters to my uncles who lived in abroad. When I was in class one I wrote a letter to my uncle and my father checked it and said,” the letter what you have written is very nice and your expressions are very good, I am sure that your uncle must like your letter.” It was a matter of great joy that my uncle liked the letter very much and told me to write a letter every month. My father’s inspiring speech and my uncle’s inspiration inspired me to write.

Gradually I was growing up. I was passing one by one years in school and loosing the habit of creative writing, because school teachers liked students to write creatively. They always wanted students to memorize from specific books. They never inspired us to learn from anywhere I can or show my own creativity. Thus my area of knowledge became fixed. After some years in my educational life, the situation turned into worse. I lost not only my writing habits but also my habit of reading. Even I did not like to read good story books or any good newspaper. I became very out of date from the current world. My world became fixed with some knowledge of certain areas. When people discussed with me any current issue, I was just in a stuck.

Though writing was not my hobby, I liked to write when I was a small child of class three, four or five. I have many good experiences on writing in my life. One of the most special experiences which is now coming from my memory is that when I read in class five, Bangladesh Sishu Academy arranged a study tour at Ahasan Monzil and our class was selected for going to the tour. After arriving to the Ahasan Monjil, all of us first take a look to the whole area and the important things there. After then the authority of the tour announced that there is a creative writing competition on our overall tour. I participated in the contest and I got the third price. That memorable event gave me a thought that not only my parents but also experts like my writing.

I have already passed my school & college life. In my school life I met many English and Bengali teachers. They always advised us to write informative writings especially in writing essay or composition like ‘science in everyday life’, ‘computer’ etc. that’s why we had to memorize information from the books and vomit it through the exam paper hall. The other very important aspects that pinch me is that students who memorized question answers from notes on or guide books, they got good marks. It was indirectly inspired students to memorize. I passed two years at NotreDame College and learned many things from there. There I met two English teachers and I learned from them not only lessons but also about life. Both of them were creative & experienced and taught us to ce creative. Both of them were freedom fighters and taught us the actual freedom. Without freedom no one can grow up his talents.

In spite of my lacking of knowledge about many things, I want to be a good writer. I always have a wish to write in the column of a renowned newspaper. I believe that one day I can do it. There is a saying that practice makes a man perfect. This is the most important thing that without practicing writing I can not reach in my goal. I think that there is also another important thing that is reading. If I read more I can know more and can express my thoughts. I am waiting for the day when I become a good writer, when people read my writings with love.
